Simple note system for service attempts

Process server here. Sharing a simple method I use to preserve evidence and stay inside pretext lines. My steps, kept in time-stamped notes:

  • 07:10 arrive, wide photo of frontage with phone timestamp. if GPS stamp fails, I say on recorder, where lawful, ā€œ07:10, 123 Oak, Attempt 1.ā€
  • 07:12 knock, wait two minutes, second knock, leave card if appropriate. Porch cam glare has been a snag at dawn.
  • 07:16 depart. I note vehicles, lights, no-trespass signs, and any voices heard, nothing speculative. File handling:
  • Name files YYYYMMDD_HHMM_address_attempt01.
  • Save original photos to a cloud folder set to view only, no edits.
  • Add a short note in SimpleNote and on paper with a Pilot G2. Pretext boundaries I stick to: no fake jobs, no claims I’m law enforcement, no lies about what the document is. Anyone using a reliable timestamp camera app or an easy way to lock originals?

Solid. I’d add a fixed template: arrival time, geotag/photo, knock/wait duration, contact outcome, exact words used, observed signs/vehicles, leave-behind noted, departure time. Record contemporaneously. no pretexting or neighbor probing beyond confirming residency. Export daily to read-only PDF and checksum for chain of custody. Keeps your record defensible. You using a dedicated app?
