When I’m bouncing between the property search, business registry, and a social profile, Ctrl+L then Ctrl+C grabs the URL fast so I paste it and never wonder where a spelling or address came from.
Same pain at 6 a.m. — my fix is one running note where every lookup gets pasted immediately as “fact — [county property search | 06:12 | URL]” and I pick a canonical name at the top before opening the next tab. I also rename tabs with a short case code + the canonical name (e.g., PI07 — Gonzalez, Ana) so when I hit 12 tabs I still know what came from where.
Tabs betray me too, especially at 6 a.m. I stopped juggling and just print key pages to PDF — county property search, state business registry, social — with the time in the filename, then close the tab. By Wednesday I’ve got 06-08_state-registry_Jane-Doe.pdf and friends I can skim fast, and the source is baked.
I started archiving every page I touch before calls — hit the Wayback ‘Save Page’ and paste the capture URL next to the note, so when names or addresses wobble I can trace exactly what I saw at that minute (https://web.archive.org/save). If a site blocks it, I take a timestamped screenshot as the fallback and keep the same short tag in the filename.
