Can a client OK a GPS tracker

If they own the vehicle, can a licensed PI legally install a tracker without the driver’s consent? I’m seeing mixed answers, I’ll check my state statute, but I’d love real-world guardrails — like how you handle it in Florida or California.

I only install if I have the registered owner/lessee’s written consent with a copy of the registration, and I’ll pass if the driver is a co-owner or there’s any DV/RO history. In CA, consent helps but isn’t a magic wand — see PC 637.7 — so I stick to employer-owned fleet cars and document the lawful purpose: California Code, PEN 637.7.. Is this an employer vehicle or a jointly titled personal car?
